VOLUNTEER TRAIL STEWARDS


Help the City of Aurora Open Space Division provide a positive experience for all of our Open Space visitors and trail users.



Duties

Walk, ride a bike or a horse along the Open Space trails and provide information to trail users concerning regulations, trail conditions, directions, and history of the area. Report to the Open Space and Natural Resources Division any conditions of which they should be aware of such as a tree blocking the trail, a visitor not in compliance with regulations, injured trail users, fires, etc. Trail Stewards are required to perform one service project per season and a minimum of eight (8) hours of trail patrol each month throughout the season. The Trail Steward season is April 1st to October 31st.

Qualifications

Trail Stewards must be at least 18 years of age. Must successfully pass a thorough background check. Must complete an application. Must complete all training sessions provided including the Open Space tour prior to appointment as a Trail Steward. Children under 18 years of age who would like to become a Junior Trail Steward must be sponsored by and work with an adult or guardian over the age of 18. In addition, children wishing to participate in the Junior Trail Steward program must complete a Junior Trail Steward training program.
